As we discussed at the last meeting we will be having a December meeting at Academy rather than our normal first Tuesday holiday get together.  This is due to the fact that I will not be around on the first Tuesday in January so we will be doing the dinner on that day.  Luckily we will have with us at the meeting Mark Ferraro CPMR from Security Hardware, Inc.  He is a manufactures representative who and consultant for several companies including Major Manufacturing , KSP, Trimco and Command Access.  This Tuesday he will be discussing the new products available from Major Manufacturing.  AS you know they are a local company that has been making Quality tools and installation Equipment for over 25 years.

He will also be showing us the KSP product line.  They are one of the leaders in both SFIC and LFIC products.

Greg Waugh, President & CEO of Pacific Lock Company (PACLOCK) will be our guest presenter.  As he states it, he is going to do his best to cram 10 pounds of padlock information into the 5 Pound bags he’s bringing.  Did you know they will be launching into Home Depot?  And Amazon?  As locksmiths, we tend to look at these things as negatives, but this actually could be a good thing for our industry, and he is going to explain why.

He will also discuss their work on the government side as well as showing us some of their new innovative products.

We all deal with pad locks everyday so this is a meeting you don’t want to miss.

He will be providing all sorts of Swag as well, so there’s another good reason to get here for this one.

It is also going to be the return of the sandwiches!!!

They say, fake it ’til you make it, but is there value in taking on more than you can chew, or does that just lead to indigestion.  At this week’s meeting, Randy Main and I will be discussing what goes into building a business that, at the end of its cycle, has sellable value.  We are purposefully taking a break from talking about hardware, and using this meeting to discuss some of the opportunities we have been able to capitalize on in building a company and in Randy’s case some of the things he discovered when it came time to sell the business.

“Is it Medeco, or Medico, or Medmklaenfklner?” Locksmith: “It’s the last one, I think.”

Next to Schlage I think Medeco is the most poorly pronounced name in the industry.  Even as I type this email my outlook thinks both are spelled wrong.  This Tuesday we will be learning more about what is new from the industry leader as we are being visited by Bud Piefer.  He is a sales rep for Assa Abloy and will be reintroducing us to Medeco XT.

As with any technical platform there are many new functionality that they are offering in order to keep up with our changing times.

Not sure if it is the proximity to the 4^th of July that caused the issue, but I was not able to find any good speakers for the upcoming meeting, and as it is a holiday week, I think it’s better to spike it for this month.

This month we are lucky to have guest speaker Guy T. Robinson.  He is AssaAbloy University’s principal educator based here in Ontario.

Guy is Extremely knowledgeable in all things AssaAbloy and will also be talking to us about Norton door closers and door operators.

He will be discussing how to determine which door closer to choose based on the application, and also how to determine the mounting option that would best work for an installation.
